Mr. Stine attended college at Kirksville, Missouri, and upon arriving in Henrietta in 1873, he taught school and studied law. He was admitted to the Texas Bar about 1880. He served as County Judge for several years until 1886 when he was elected Judge of the 30th Judicial District, which was composed of Clay, Archer, Jack, Young, Wichita and Wilbarger Counties.
Mr. Stine married Lulu Hurt on December 30, 1886, in the home of her aunt, Mrs. J. F. Alcorn. Officiating minister was Rev. L. P. Smith, pastor of the First Methodist Church. Following the wedding they left for Jacksboro, where he held his first term of District Court.
For a period of time he was associated with his brother Vincent in the practice of law. Later he was in the law firm of Stine, Hurt & Chestnutt. At the time of his death, he and son Vincent were partners in the law firm of Stine & Stine.
Judge Stine was a charter member of the First Christian Church and taught a Sunday School class from the time the church was organized until his death. Mrs. Stine was a faithful member of the church and also taught a Sunday School class of boys for many years.
Three of their children died in early childhood. The other children were James M., Alta, Vincent, Lulu, and Pierre M., Jr.
