Gilbert "Gil" Lee Carrington passed away suddenly at his home on May 29, 2010.

He was born on Oct. 19, 1933, in Butte, to Anna R. Topsick Carrington and Charles G. Carrington. He grew up in the vicinity of Big Horn, attending Tullock Creek School and Custer High School. After graduation from high school, Gilbert attended college, married Mary Ann Maas and served two years in the United States Army with assignment in Japan. After graduation from college with a degree in elementary education, Gilbert was employed by the Billings Public Schools, where he served for 34 years as a teacher and elementary principal. Having divorced, he married Marguerite E. Hutton Carrington in 1967, and she survives him. He is also survived by two sisters, Lois Morganti and Marjorie (Derrald) Ferrin of Billings. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Wilma Zaharko.

Gilbert volunteered his time and services to many organizations and groups, such as the PTA, Elementary Principals Association, Rimrock Masonic Lodge, Billings Scottish Rite, the American Legion and various other social organizations. He developed great respect for the many people in Billings who gave to him so that he might share his abilities with others.

The deceased requested that no formal funeral services be held. He would rather that his friends and acquaintances give an equivalent amount of time as volunteer service to their community. A brief committal service will be held at the gravesite for immediate family members.

Smiths Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
