U.S. Congressman. Moving to Watertown, South Dakota, in 1900, he was employed as a railroad worker, (1903-32). Entering politics, he was a member of the South Dakota State House of Representatives, (1922-23) and was chairman of the South Dakota Game and Fish Commission, (1927-31). In 1933, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third, Seventy-fourth and Seventy-fifth Congresses, serving until 1939. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1944 and engaged in private business endeavors until his death.
