Barbara I. Lee, age 74, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Lyndon, IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta, GA. Barbara was born January 6, 1936 in Morrison, IL, the daughter of James D. and Bertha Howe. Barbara was educated in the Morrison Grade Schools and was a graduate of Morrison High School, Morrison, IL. Barbara was employed as bookkeeper for the Whiteside County Health Department until retiring in 1992 when she moved to Blairsville, GA. Following retirement she was employed by the Mental Health Clinic, Hiawassee, GA. Barbara was a member of Coosa United Methodist Church, Blairsville, GA and very active in most of the church's ministries and activities. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Red Hat Society and several book clubs in Blairsville. Barbara was a passionate genealogist and active in historical societies in Illinois and Georgia. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She married Frank B. Lee on November 16, 1957 in Elgin, IL. He preceded her in death on March 20, 2003. She was also predeceased by her parents, a daughter Kathleen Taggart, and a granddaughter Rebecca Lee.
Barbara is survived by three daughters, Melody Lee, Elgin, IL, Michelle Lee, Marietta, GA, Marcia (Lee) Cox, Myakka City, FL; Frank (Minnie) Lee, Wayne, IL, Michael (Lori) Lee, Prophetstown, IL, Matthew (LuEllen) Lee, Morrison, IL, Martin Lee, Douglasville, GA; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, many great great grandchildren, one brother Daniel Howe of Franklin, KY.
Funeral services were held at 7 PM on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Morrison Chapel – Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with cremation rites following. Pastor Bob Burton of Bethesda Lutheran Church, Morrison, IL, officiated. Visitation was 5-7 PM Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Morrison Chapel, Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Inurnment at Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL. Memorials may be made to: Coosa United Methodist Church, Blairsville, GA Scholarship Fund and the American Cancer Society.
