August was born in Burlington, Wisconsin on September 18, 1852. He relocated to Belle Plaine in 1876 and there he took his wife Margaret "Maggie" Bettendorf, they were married on October 9, 1877.
In April of 1879 they moved to Melrose where August engaged in the blacksmithing business, the general merchandise business and later farming near town . The Borget's moved to town in about 1918 when they retired from farming.
In 1927 August & Maggie celebrated their 50ths wedding anniversary. On January 8, 1932 Margaret passed away at past 72 years of age and on March 12, 1933 at the age of 81 August passed away.
