The community lost one of its foremost citizens last Monday, July 9, 1933 when Mr. James Kent Boggs, son of the late Judge James Boggs, passed away at his home on Wood Street after a serious illness of a couple of months.

He consulted specialists in Philadelphia recently and everything possible in human knowledge and skill was done for him. His life has always been such that when called upon to face the inevitable he was unafraid and rested in composure because his mind was stayed upon a higher power – his trust in God was supreme. Mr. Boggs underwent a very serious operation some years ago from which he recovered and enjoyed the subsequent years in moderate help and comfort.

James Kent Boggs was born in Clarion on May 17, 1861, the son of the late Judge James and Mrs. Margaret Boggs and he has been a citizen of Clarion during his entire life. Here he received his education and embarked in business. For many years he was a leading shoe merchant in Clarion, during which time he earned the approval of a large number of people of the town and county by the observance of correct principles of business. He sold his store and became active in the development of oil and gas interests and in this line was quite successful. In all of his business relations he earned the reputation of being an honorable and upright man, worthy of the confidence and esteem of his fellow man. He was a man of strong convictions and was tenacious and loyal to his convictions on religious, civic, social and political life, always endeavoring to square his acts with his beliefs.

Mr. Boggs was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Brisbin on February 12, 1889. She now survives him with the following children, namely: Mrs. Charles B. Weidman, Philadelphia; James Lawrence and Richard Boggs all of Clarion.

The deceased has for many years been a most exemplary church member and a Christian man of high principle and practice and was always looked upon as a safe counselor on all related questions, filling official positions in the church to which he gave his fealty. His funeral services were held at his late home on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock being conducted by his former pastor, Rev. Wm. F. Fleming, D. D. of West Newton, Pa., and assisted by his present pastor, Rev. Wm. P. Murray of Clarion in the presence of a vast number of friends and neighbors and in the midst of a beautiful tribute of flowers. The interment was made in the family lot in Clarion Cemetery.
