Rev. Abe H. Brooks, age 88, of the Barkers Creek Community died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at his home. Abe was born October 5, 1922 in Jackson County. He is the son of the late Dillard and Stella Gunter Brooks. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Carnes Brooks. He served in the Army during World War II. He was retired from the A&P grocery store where he worked as a clerk. Abe served as pastor at East Alarka Baptist, Whittier Baptist, Balsam Grove Baptist, and Rose Creek during his years of ministering.

He is survived by his wife Blanch Seagle Brooks; two sons, Buddy and wife Irene Brooks and Mike and wife Cindy, all of Whittier; one step daughter Gail and husband Steve Cabe of Franklin; one step son Jack and wife Barbara Elliott of Franklin; one brother Lon Brooks of Washington; one sister Myrtle Green of Whittier; seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Appalachian Funeral Services. The funeral service will be at 3:30 Sunday in the Rockdale Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Fox, Rev. Clifford Willis and Rev. Clark Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Barkers Creek Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Darin, Ryan, Jared, Greg, Mark, and David Brooks, Clyde Green, Steve Cabe, and honorary pallbearer, Wyatt Brooks
