Gertrude had a beautiful singing voice and sang for radio programs for many years as well as in many a church choir. She married Arthur W Porter on Dec. 30, 1914 in Muskingum Co, OH. Arthur was a mail carrier for the US Postal Service. Everyone on his route seemed to know ahead of time when my mother was coming to stay during her summer vacation. She rode with Uncle Arthur on his mail route and those along the way would bring out a ham, a pretty cake and other gifts of food in celebration of the visit of the Porters' niece. Another special treat was the making of real root beer with her aunt and uncle in their basement.
