Cumberland - CUMBERLAND - Edward J. Mattingly, 93, of Cumberland died peacefully at his home Monday, May 17, 2010. Born Jan. 22, 1917 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Joseph I. and Ellen (Ready) Mattingly.
Mr. Mattingly was the former owner and operator of J.I. Mattingly and Brothers. He was First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a graduate of LaSalle High School and the University of Notre Dame. Mr. Mattingly was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Cumberland Country Club. He was an avid golfer and had six holes in one. He enjoyed local golfing with his family. Surviving are his wife, Mary Therese Mattingly; two daughters, Kathryn C. Mattingly, Cumberland, Sharon Wagner, West Chester, Ohio; six sons, Edward J. Mattingly Jr. and wife Margee, LaVale, Michael R. Mattingly and wife Paula, LaVale, Daniel M. Mattingly, Pittsburgh, Pa., Thomas A. Mattingly, Chicago, Ill., Brian A. Mattingly and wife Connie, Woodbine, Patrick S. Mattingly and wife Nicole, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; nine grandchildren, Jocelyn Scheller, Kiel Wagner, Kevin Wagner, Morgan Mattingly, Sean Mattingly, Joseph Mattingly, Erin Mattingly, Karrah Mattingly and Ryann Mattingly; and one great-grandchild, Gianna Scheller. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., (www.scarpellifuneralhomes.com) on Wednesday from 2 to 4 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. A Christian Wake will be conducted on Wednesday at 8:15 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church at noon on Thursday with Fr. Ty Hullinger as celebrant. Pallbearers will be Robert Schade Jr., Cory Simpson, Holly Simpson, Jennifer Browne, Joseph Mattingly, and Sean Mattingly.
