Earl K. Adams of Dunbar and Scott Depot passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011. Earl was 85 years old.
He was a member of Dunbar United Methodist Church since 1958. He retired from Union Carbide's Institute Plant after 36 years of employment. Following retirement, Earl teamed up with Walt Ranson to become Dunbar's favorite handymen. Friends knew Earl as "Abadab." He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Dunbar, the Scottish Rite Temple in Charleston and was a Shriner. Earl served in the Navy during WWII in Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pruda and W. Sheridan Adams; and brother W.S. "Bill" Adams, all of Dunbar.
He is survived by wife, Opal G. Adams; daughter, Susan V. and husband, Steve Morris of Sweetwater, Tenn.; daughter, Sally and husband, Vernon Sloan, of Winfield; son, Philip and wife, Lisa, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and grandchildren, Elise Stephens of Knoxville, Tenn., Ben Stephens of Boulder, Colo., Ryan Boggess of Greensboro, N.C., and Hunter and Marley Adams of Winston-Salem, N.C.
Earl was true to his character of stewardship by donating his body to the Human Gift Registry at the WVU Medical Center.
Memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan 14, at Dunbar United Methodist Church, 1401 Myers Ave., Dunbar.
Family will receive friends from 5-6pm.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial donations to Dunbar United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 1401 Myers Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064.
