LACY TRIMBLE STEELE

The funeral of Lacy Trimble Steele, whose death occurred at his home in this city Saturday morning July 2. at 12:45 o'clock, after a short illness, was held in this city Saturday afternoon at five o'clock. The cortege left his late residence, 601 North DeLeon Street, at five o'clock and interment was made In the Evergreen Cemetery, Rev. Louis A. Parker, pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church, officiating.

The following named gentlemen served as pall bearers: P. B. McNeal, Campbell McIntosh, Charles Sloan, John E. Hall, E. Middleton and A. Maurer.

Decedent was a native of Rockbridge, Va., and was born on March 28, 1857, being aged 64 years, 3 months and 2 days at the time of his death. He was prominent in public affairs and was an exemplary citizen of this community. Mr. Steele had the distinction of being the first County Superintendent of Public Instruction of Victoria County. At one time he was Editor of The Advocate and resigned that position to take up the duties of the newly created office of County Superintendent. During recent years Mr. Steele has been engaged in the grocery business being connected with the Farmers Cash Grocery.

In addition to his widow Mr. Steele is survived by two daughters, Mrs. W. S. Higgins and Miss Marjorie Steele, of this city. One grandson also survives.
