US Congressman. A businessman with a number of successful ventures, he was elected as a Whig to represent New Jersey’s 1st District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1849 to 1851. He declined re-nomination for the seat, which subsequently went to Congressman Nathan Taylor Stratton. He served as President of the Camden and Atlantic Railroad Company from 1872 to 1876.
