HARRIS, Lowell A., 76, passed away Friday, January 14, 2011. "Lowell was a friend to all who never met a stranger. His love of Christ and his relation-ship with God demonstrates to all of us that accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior can give us heaven on earth." Lowell' s greatest pleasure was to serve the Lord in any way he could. Born and raised in Indianapolis, Ind., Lowell was a member of Olive Branch Christian Church and graduated from Manuel High School. He attended Butler University and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the University of Georgia. He worked at Enloe' s Pharmacy in Rome, Ga., before serving as Chief Pharmacist of the 130th Army Station Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany. After his service, he came to work at Kiefer' s Pharmacy in Dade City, Fla., where he remained for more than 30 years. During this time, he was also the Chief Pharmacist at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was an Eckerd pharmacist for several years, and after semi-retiring, worked part-time for Cares Pharmacy and Winn-Dixie. Lowell married Patsy Wallace, April 25, 1958. They were married for 53 years. Lowell was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dade City for 50 years and enjoyed serving many roles, most recently as a lay leader. He was also active with a local Promise Keepers group. Lowell served as a Dade City Commissioner for seven years during two separate terms. He was an original board member of East Pasco Habitat for Humanity and served as president. He helped charter Boy Scout Troops 301 and 402, and served the Boy Scouts in various roles for over 40 years. He is an honorary Eagle Scout and recently received an international scouting award. Lowell has been a member of Dade City Rotary Club for 45 years and served as president in 1972. He recently received the first annual Lifetime Achievement Award, named in his honor. He was a longtime member of the Greater Dade City Chamber of Commerce and received the Richard Tombrink Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001. Lowell was involved in drug abuse prevention and awareness his entire career, and was a founding member of Parental Awareness and Responsibility (PAR). Lowell served as director of Hernando-Pasco Hospice, as well as past commissioner of the Pasco Housing Authority. He served on the Board of Trustees for Pasco Regional Medical Center for the past several years. The Honorable Michael Bilirakis, member of U.S. Congress, presented him with the Ninth Congressional District Distinguished Service Award. In 2006, he received the Pasco County Sheriff' s Award for Dedication to his Community and Commitment to Law Enforcement. Lowell also was honored with the Lincoln Day Heritage Award in 2006, from the East Pasco Political Club. Lowell was a director for CARES Pasco County, and most recently served as treasurer. In 2008, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America presented him with the Lewis Abraham Lifetime Achievement Award. His love for and dedication to his community was apparent to all. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Wallace Harris of Dade City; son, Blaine (Shannon) of Lawrenceville, Ga; daughter, Laura Harris Caldwell (Ray) of Athens, Ga; brother, Ronald Harris (Gail) of Mableton, Ga; sister, Donna Parham of Neptune Beach, Fla.; grand-children, Kelsey, Logan and Adam Harris, and Alec Housholder. Visitation will take place 5-8 p.m. Monday, January 17, at Hodges Funeral Home, 14046 5th Street, Dade City, FL, 33525, (352) 567-0000. A memorial Service will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church of Dade City, 37628 Church Ave., Dade City, FL, 33525. Internment will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery. A reception will take place at the church afterwards in the Family Life Center to celebrate Lowell' s life.
