Thomas Hart Hoskins was born on 17 Nov 1801 in Halifax County, Va. as the fourth child of Thomas Hart Hoskins and Frances (Fannie) Coan. He had three siblings, namely: James C., William, and Elizabeth. He died on 31 Oct 1881 in Cole Co. Mo.. When he was 21, He married Elizabeth Shumate,daughter of Mark Hardin Shumate and Deborah DeMarques, in 1823 in Claiborne Co., Tn..

Thomas Hart Hoskins was buried in Old Henley Cemetery in Cole Co Mo.. He was counted in the census in 1850 in Eliz 47 both b Va Also his mother Frances age 74 was in the household.. This pioneer family patriarch, Thomas Hart Hoskins, was still active on the farm at age 71, when he met his death in an accident. The cause of his death was told by his grandson Samuel Hoskins "Grandpa was fatally injured while unhooking a team of horses from his wagon. He forgot to unhook the last tug, and started to lead the horses away. One horse was frightened at not being released. Grandpa tried to hold him, the strap broke and the wagon ran over him. He never regained consciousness, and died several hours later, still holding the strap in a death grip."
