Pembroke - Rufus Henry (Zoo) Bacon, 57, died Monday in Evans County Hospital after a short illness. He was a native of Bryan County, a member of the Pembroke Christian Church and a retired iron worker.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cealia Roberts Bacon of Pembroke; two sons, Rufus Ed and Jimmy Bacon, both of Pembroke; six daughters, Mrs. Eula Mae Jones of Augusta, Mrs. Veldie Jean Powell of Garden City, Mrs. Joyce Kirkland of Lyons, Mrs. Audrey Lapp of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. Barbara Brown of Mechanicstown, Ohio, and Mrs. Linda Kay Hansford of Pembroke; two brothers, Hiran and Jessie Bacon, both of Pembroke; three sisters, Mrs. Mamie Floyd, Mrs. Dorothy Bacon and Mrs. Annie Lee Bacon, all of Pembroke; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pembroke Christian Church with burial in Groveland Cemetery. Morrison Funeral Home of Pembroke is in charge.
