Eugene M. Bartlett, Jr., 70, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, died July 10, 1988, at Mercy Health Center, following an extended illness. He was born May 4, 1918, in Greenwood, Arkansas to E. M. & Joan Tatum Bartlett, later moving to Hartford, Arkansas, where his father founded the Hartford Music Publishing Co. Gene was a well-known composer of gospel music. He Came to Oklahoma City in 1947 serving as Minister of Music at Trinity Baptist Church for seven years. In 1954, he became Director of the Dept. of Church Music for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. He would be best remembered as 'Uncle Gene' by the thousands of Oklahoma young people who attended Falls Creek Baptist Assembly during the 26 years he directed the music there. Gene retired in 1980 because of Parkinson's Disease. He was survived by his wife, Emma Jeanne; his sons, Larry of California, Reggie of Bethany; a daughter, Fran Myers of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren, Julie, Chris and Scott Myers, Devin and Nicholas Bartlett; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family designates memorial gifts to the Falls Creek Bell Tower Fund or the Parkinson's Foundation. Graveside services for the family & friends will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Resurrection Cemetery with a memorial service to be held at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Baptist Church.
