George A. Phillips was the son of Andrew Jackson and Martha Rowan. He was married to Augusta Kessel on August 23, 1897. He attended the Chillicothe Business College, Chillicothe, Missouri where he studied subjects that would prepare him for a law degree. He studied with a Judge in Memphis until he prepared to take the examination for a Law degree. He took the examination and passed which allowed him to obtain his license to practice. Before his death and after 50 years as a lawyer, he was awarded a citation from the Missouri Bar Association for using good ethics in the practice of Law. He served in many offices and capacities including local school board, Justice of the Peace, and Road Overseer. He was a member of the Scotland County Republican Committee and served as Judge at elections. George A. and his wife Augusta had the following children; George Arue Phillips, Lenna Mae (Phillips) Roberts, John M. Phillips, Francis M. Phillips, Martha Helen (Phillips) Hanan, and Mabel Irene Phillips.
