PORTAGE--Shirley A. Simonson, age 61, a life-long Portage resident, died Tuesday, March 26, 1991 at University Hospital in Madison. Shirley Ann Neubauer was born on September 6, 1929 to Roy Neubauer and Agnes (Nehring) Twitchell. In September of 1947, she was untied in marriage with Lloyd E. Simonson at Portage. Mrs. Simonson was employed by the Weyenberg Shoe Company and later by AMPI until her retirement in 1989. After her retirement, she worked as a part-time waitress at the Levee Restaurant. Mrs. Simonson was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Cleary-Kretch Post #1707 Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Simonson was also a member of the Portage Elkettes, a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program and enjoyed bingo. She is survived by four children, Dennis, Gary, Cheryl, and Randy Simonson; one grandson, Terry Simonson; a cousin, George (Jeanne) Niemeyer; all of Portage; and many relatives and close friends. She as preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, James neubauer; and a half-brother, Larry Twitchell. Funeral services will be held Friday, march 29, 1991 at 10:30 a.m. at the Port-Axtell Funeral Home in Portage. Reverend Ken Barnhardt will officiate. Burial will be at the Oak park Cemetery in Portage.
