Obituary, The Potter Enterprise (Coudersport, PA), Thu, 18 Mar 1942, pg. 10:
MRS. ELLEN ABBEY DIES AT HOME OF MRS. SMITH
Mrs. Ellen Breese Abbey, Harrison Valley, passed away March 15 at the home of Mrs. Coleman Smith, Port Allegany road, where she had been tenderly cared for the past 11 weeks.
She was born at Horseheads, N Y., November 11, 1854, a daughter of James Breese and Henrietta Greene Breese. February 8, 1874, she was united in marriage to Darius Abbey, who passed away several years ago.
Mrs. Abbey is survived by an adopted son, Ray Abbey, and several grandchildren.[*]
The funeral was held yesterday at the Harrison Valley home for the aged and burial was made in the Mills Cemetery.
[*] The starred paragraph is inaccurate. Darius & Ellen's adopted son, William Ray Barnhart/Abbey, preceded them in death in 1906. This made necessary their assuming the role of step-parents for Ray's two sons. There were only two grandchildren, not several.
Listed in entry 685 (Marvin Huntley Abbey) of "Abbe-Abbey Genealogy/In Memory of John Abbe and his Descendants" by Cleveland Abbe & Josephine Genung Nichols, 1916:
