Lafayette Gregg Oxford, "Dr. Fate" as he was called because he was a medical doctor, was my great-uncle by marriage. He was the son of Brinkley Harmon "Brink" Oxford and Mary Ann Jackson Oxford. He married my maternal great-grandmother's sister, Nancy Melissa "Sis" Hastings Oxford (no marriage date). She was the 2nd daughter and the 2nd child of William Wallace Hastings and Margaret Ann Philpott Hastings. Dr. Fate and Sis had 5 sons and 3 daughters. He was a Doctor in Erath Co. for the last 40 years up until his death, first driving a horse and buggy and then a Model-T Ford. He saw families through critical illnesses, delivered babies, set broken bones and performed surgery on kitchen tables in the light of kerosene lamps.
