Dean is survived by his partner, Patricia Sawyer; half-sisters, Judith, Jayme; half-brothers John and Jeffery; step-sister Joyce and step-brothers Larry and Lonnie; nephews, Ronald, Robert; and his best buddy, Deana.
Dean was born September 1, 1936 in Athens, Illinois, the son of Kenneth and Henrietta Shutt Large. He is preceded in death by his father and sisters Marilyn Wicks & Jeanne Large.
He owned and operated L & D Garage and Circle L Towing. Dean also worked for Springfield School District #186, retiring in 1978. Dean also was a partner in the Feed Corral.
He was a member of the Carpenter's Union, Pleasant Plains Masonic Lodge #700 and Percheron Horse Association of America.
Percheron draft horses were a significant part of his life. He plowed, entered parades, showed, and worked with the horses for nearly 30 years.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens with Masonic services being held there at 6:30 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home.
Rev. Charlie Carver will officiate.
Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.
Memorials can be made to the Pleasant Plains Masonic Lodge #700 or Percheron Horse Association of America.
