Death Notice McNeil-Charles F. on May 1, 1959 of Jersey City; Beloved husband of Mary (nee Persson); devoted father of Donald and Charles; Survived by 9 grandchildren.
-------------------------------------------------
Charles Francis McNeil was born May 7, 1869 on Wordsworth Street, Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Christina Campbell McNeil and Donald McNeil.
When Charles was only six months old his mother died of Thyphoid and Pneumonia.
Records appear to show that after Christina's death the family temporarily divided. At one year old Charles was living with the Douglas family. What was left of the family was reunited by 1880, according to the Federal Census of that year. At this time Charles father had taken a second wife with the name Margaret Sullivan.
Little is known of Charles' youth in Boston, but we do know that by 1894 (age 25) he relocated to Jersey City, New Jersey, where he spent the remainder of his life.
On June 3, 1903 Charles married Mary Persson, daughter of Maria Gustafson and adoptive father Anders (Andrew) Persson. They were wed in the town of Tonawanda, New York.
Mary was only 19 years old.
Census records indicate that at various times Charles had a "Junk Business" which he worked from his "Own Boat." and later as a "Floatsman on the Railroad."
Charles died May 1, 1959. According to his obituary, Charles died at his home at 320 Duncan Avenue, Jersey City, New Jersey.
