BEVERIDGE, Philo Judson (b. December 1, 1851 Tennessee; d. May 1, 1921 Cathedral Mausoleum #983) A graduate of Northwestern University at Evanston, Illinois, Philo worked in the auditors office of the Central Pacific Railroad in Sacramento, California. He later worked with the Yellowstone Park Geological Survey and also as a secretary for his father who was the governor of Illinois from 1873-1877. Philo later moved to Chicago and worked as a note broker for the Beveridge & Dewey banking business. From there he moved to Nevada and worked as a mining superintendent and also as a manager for a gas heating appliance firm. In 1893 Philo moved to Hollywood and went into ranching and real estate and in March 1894, he married the widow of Harvey Wilcox, Daeida and together they had 4 children, 2 of whom survived to adulthood. He had previously went married to Ella (nee) Reutzer with whom he had 3 children. Philo continued to be involved in real estate and as Hollywood subdivided, he sold off his land and holdings as well as helping to get the Los Angeles Pacific started. He also served as director of the Hollywood National Bank and the Citizens Bank of Hollywood; president of the Connell Company and the Auto Funding Company of America.
