Lawton E. Jeffers, Sr.,
age 73, of Oneida, Tenn., died July 18, 1995, at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville. Born in Scott County, Tenn., September 4, 1921, he was the son of the late Elvin and Prentie Keeton Jeffers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded also in death by his first wife, Evelyn Hines Jeffers; three brothers, Howard, Herbert and Horace Jeffers and one sister, Beulah Jeffers. He was a Christian, and worshiped at the Oneida Church of Christ. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and was an employee of Terry Motor Company from 1955 until present. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Pergram Jeffers; two sons: Ronnie Jeffers and wife, Trudy of Oneida, and Lawton E. Jeffers, Jr. and wife, Clo of Indianapolis, Ind.; three daughters: Jo Newport and husband Charles of Oneida; Jane Storey and husband Gary of Calhoun, Ga., and Suzanne Kidd and husband, Ronnie of Westmoreland, Tenn., two step-daughters, Maxine Sexton of Norma and Imogene Litton of Oneida; one sister, Delores Chapman; fourteen grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted July 21, 1995, at the Oneida Church of Christ with Ministers Clifford Reel and Larry Cole officiating. Interment followed in the Carson Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Doug Newport, Phil Newport, Paul Newport, Chuck Jeffers, Chris Acres, Greg Pike, Mac Gasque and Kris Newsome. Jones & Son Funeral Home of Oneida was in charge of arrangements.
