Funeral services for Mrs. Robert L. Hopkins, 24, the former Miss Virginia Richardson, who died in a Houston hospital at 9:30 o'clock Wednesday night following an emergency operation performed Saturday, were held from the home of her aunt, Mrs. Adrian Ford, at 10:00 o'clock Friday morning.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. S.L. Terry, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Terry was assisted by Rev. M.L. Fuller, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Interment was in the city cemetery.
Mrs. Hopkins, who was reared in Athens, failed to rally following the operation and had remained in a critical condition for four days prior to her death. Her mother, Mrs. Alice Richardson, who was in Washington, D.C. at the time of the operation, rushed to the hospital and was at the bedside when death came.
Born in Athens on March 22nd, 1910, the deceased had lived here most of her life. She was graduated from Athens High School and attended Trinity University. She had lived in Houston since her marriage to Mr. Hopkins on January 14, 1931. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband; her mother, Mrs. Alice Richardson; her grandmother, Mrs. M.E. Richardson and a number of other relatives.
The deceased was a daughter of the late Ben M. Richardson, whose death occurred in 1918.
Pallbearers were: Edward Nash, Stewart Nash, Fritz Hawn, A.F. Wood Jr., Gaston Wood, Winfield Stirman and Frank Larue. Rayford McWilliams of Palestine was ill and unable to serve as a pallbearer.
Honorary pallbearers were: A.F. Wood Sr., Ora Hart, Royal Watkins, Weldon Royall, Will Faulk, Earl Jones, Horace Barron and A.S. Ferrell.
