James H. Myers
James H. Myers, a former Camas resident, died July 17, 1993, in Vale, Ore. He
was 82. Myers was born Sept 12, 1910, in Chicago. From 1927 to 1932, Myers was a
professional boxer who went by the name of "The Grand Crossing Kid". He fought
120 bouts as a professional in the fly, feather and bantam weight classes, and
only lost three fights.
In 1933, Meyers entered in the Civilian Conservation Corps and was sent to
Washington. After living in Camas, and later, Chicago, he moved to Junction
City, Ore. Myers was employed as a machinist and mill worker until 1958 when he
went to work as a school custodian in Eugene, Ore. He retired in 1975.
He is survived by his daughter,Lucy Hutchens of Vale, Ore.; son, James R Meyers
of Portland; two sisters; three brothers; four grandchildren;and two
great-grandchildren.
His funeral was held Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Camas. Burial was
at Camas Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Sponsor A Child Fund at RTAT
Inc., P.O. Box V. Ontario, OR 97914.
Straub's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
