Ethel Maude Branum was born May 16, 1910 in Comanche County, Texas to John William Burks and Sue Jim Frith. Ethel grew up in a farming household with six brothers. In 1934, Ethel married Rufus Maxwell and they resided in Dublin, Texas. They later moved to Brownwood where Ethel was widowed in January of 1945. At the time she was carrying her first daughter.
In 1946, Ethel moved to Galveston where she met Walter Moore Branum, Jr. They were married May 15, 1947. The following year they welcomed their daughter, Patricia Ann Branum.
Ethel was again widowed in 1993 and lived out her years in Texas City until 2003.
