CDR Charles Edward "Chuck" White passed away May 4, 2010 in Pensacola, FL after a nearly two year battle with lung cancer.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Joanne White; six children, Mike, Kevin, Kathie, Sharon, Theresa, and Sean; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Born in Seattle, WA to Eugene and Harriet White and raised in Lake Oswego, OR, Chuck graduated from Central Catholic High School in Portland in 1949. During his time there he became a member of the Oregon National Guard. Chuck attended the U.S. Naval Academy and graduated in 1953. At the Naval Academy, he was a member of the "Great Eight" crew team and a member of the 1952 Olympic Rowing team (The 1952 crew of which he was a member not only rowed in the Helsinki Olympics that year, but won the championship gold medal).
Upon graduation Chuck served aboard the Harry E. Hubbard (DD748) until January 1956 when he commenced flight training in Pensacola, FL. On receiving his wings in 1957, he served in Patrol Squadron One (VP-1) flying P2V-5F and 7 aircraft for four years; Commander Fleet Air Whidbey for one year; and Pre-Flight School for four years. After refresher training in 1966, Chuck served two years with VP-4 flying P-3As and two years in OPNAV. Reporting to Fleet Air Wing One Detachment Agana, Guam in 1970; he completed his military career in 1973, retiring in Guam.
Chuck's first civilian employment was starting a Navy JROTC unit in Guam.

He and his family returned to the continental U.S. in 1978 as his two oldest sons were graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy. After directing the NJROTC unit in Lodi, CA, Chuck became a logistics engineer working for Honeywell, Aerojet, Westinghouse, Litton, Logistics Systems Architects, General Dynamics, and TRW. He was awarded a Mas-ters of Science in Systems Management from University of Southern California in 1982 and declared a Certi-fied Professional Logistician (CPL) in 1989. After Sept 11, 2001, Chuck served with the Coast Guard Aux-iliary in San Diego, CA for four years.
Recitation of the rosary will be held at The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart at 5 p.m. Thursday, 6 May 2010, led by his son, Sean White.
A Requiem Funeral Mass will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, 7 May 2010 at Our Lady of Loretto Chapel, NAS Pensacola, celebrated by Msgr. Reed.
