Sister Mary Isabelle Green, a teacher, died Thursday at Memorial Medical Center. She was 72. Sister Mary Isabelle was born Genevieve M. Green in Pascagoula, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 40 years. She entered the Convent of the Most Holy Sacrament in Lafayette in 1946 after graduating from Our Lady of Victories High School. She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette and a master's degree in special education from Louisiana State University in New Orleans. She taught for 42 years in Catholic and public schools, including eight years in Crowley at St. Michael's and eight years in New Orleans at St. Maurice, Our Lady Star of the Sea and Annunciation. She began her 25-year career in special education in 1966 at St. Michael's Special School in New Orleans and spent the next 24 years with the Jefferson Parish school system as teacher and curriculum coordinator. After her retirement, Sister Isabelle worked with the elderly in Metairie. Survivors include a sister, Eunice Kroeger of Camas, Wash. A funeral was held Friday at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Burial will be today in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette.
