He also helped to launch the careers of American composers Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein, and founded the Berkshire Music Center at the Tanglewood Festival in Lenox, Massachusetts - the most successful summer music festival in North America. The BSO's technical peak as an international-standard orchestra was reached under his tenure. He began his career as a distinguished double-bass virtuoso. For RCA Victor in the 78-rpm era, he made many recordings with the BSO. The Koussevitzky plot is located near the southwest corner of the cemetery.
