Howards Grove—Mrs. Maria Anna Bertschy, 79, wife of the late Jacob Bertschy, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Mauer, died at Howards Grove today following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at the St. Johannes Evangelical church at Schwartzwald. Burial will be made in the Church cemetery and the Rev. William Schultz will officiate.
She was born February 4, 1858 in the town of Herman, and on December 11, 1883, was married to Mr. Bertschy. They located on a farm in the town of Meeme. For the past 19 years she had led a retired life in Howard Grove. Her husband preceded her in death January 10, 1929.
Three surviving children are Alvin and Arthur of the town of Meeme, and Ed of the town of Herman. There are eight grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the St. Johannes Evangelical church and always a kind and loving mother devoted to her family.
