Howard "Mike" Bennett

Services for Howard W. "Mike" Bennett, 48, of Shady Springs, will be held Wednesday at 1 pm in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Oscar Lilly in charge. Burial will be the Goodson Cemetery at Abraham.

Bennett was dead on arrival at the Summers County hospital after he drowned in the New River at Hinton Sunday.

Born Sep. 2, 1928, at Pear, Bennett was a son of the late William J. and Rhebe Brogan Bennett.

Bennett was employed as a truck driver for the Pate Trucking Co., a veteran of the Korean conflict, and a member of the Open Bible Church of Shady Springs, and the United Mine Workers of America, District 29.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Terrie (Mrs. Wayne), Tennant of Shady Spring; four brothers, Stephen of Raleigh, Russell of Fayetteville, Wriston of Delaware and Ronald of Shady Spring; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Radford of Beckley; and a granddaughter.

Friends may call at Melton Mortuary from 5 pm to 9 pm today.

Pallbearers will be Arthur Richmond, Earl Redden, Frank Pierson, William Bennett, Hugh McQuillan and Bill McQuillan.
