Mr. Alexander was born on September 5, 1927 in Marshall, Texas. He was the oldest of 3 sons to Roe Dolphus Alexander and Alogene Jared Alexander. When his mother died in 1934, Billy went to live with his uncle Jess and Aunt Una. He delivered papers and prescriptions on a bicycle to help out. At age 15, he went to welding school and worked in the Houston ship yards. He joined the Army in 1948 and served in the Korean War while rising to the rank of Sergeant 1st class. Upon his discharge, he returned to Longview.
He married Patsy Marie Spencer in October 1954 and they had 3 children: Billy Paul Alexander, David Wyatt Alexander, and Jean Elizabeth Alexander.
Billy and C.T. "Red" Bailey opened the A&B Welding Inc. shop in Longview at 102 West Marshall in 1958. His "never quit" attitude and relentless work ethic propelled the business through every hardship and downturn. His honesty, loyalty and workmanship were the hallmarks of his business. Family was his top priority. He retired the day he passed, December 14, 2009.
Billy is survived by Billy Paul, Libby, Stacey and Josh Alexander; David, Becky, John and Brent Alexander; Dr. Jody, Elizabeth and Hilary Syring; Fred E. Alexander, brother. He was preceded in death by wife Patsy, brothers Galen Wyatt and Mauree Alexander. He will be missed by all.
