Mrs. J. M. Casto died at her home in the Rockcastle section of the county on Monday, August 17, as the result of an attack of pneumonia. She was one of the well known citizens of that section and has a host of relatives and friends who mourn her passing. Mrs. Rebecca Bell Barnett Casto was born January 7, 1871 and at 1 a.m. Monday morning, August 17, 1936, death very mercifully relieved her of her sorrow, anguish and pain. She was in the Mountain State Hospital at Charleston for 12 days. The operation for gall stones was very satisfactory, but complications and capillary pneumonia caused her death. Her age was 65 years, 7 months and 10 days. She was born at Rockcastle, being the second child of ten children of Preston and Chlora Barnett. Her parents were members of a pioneer family of Jackson County and of this vicinity. She was united in marriage to John Madison Casto on December 23, 1886, their 50th wedding anniversary would have been observed on December 23 of this year, and to this union were born 12 children, two of whom preceded her in death, Opha Oliver and Chlora Ann. She is survived by her husband, J. M. Casto, of Leon; six daughters, Mrs. Lillie McKinney, of Gallipolis, Ohio, Mrs. Dorothy Harris, of New Vienna, Ohio, Mrs. Emma Rollins, of Leon, Mrs. Osa Beil, of Ludlow, Kentucky, Mrs. Lola Kunkle, of Akron, Ohio, and Mary Ethel Casto, who had been employed at Wharton; four sons, Lloyd, of Leon, Foy, of Akron, Ohio, Oshel, of Ludlow, Kentucky, and Orville, of Leon. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; four sisters preceded her in death; two sisters and three brothers, survive, Emma Hill, of Dunbar, Mrs. Delia Jacobs, of New Holland, Ohio, Camden, Clinton, and John Barnett, all of Rockcastle. In addition to these, a host of relatives and friends. [Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
