Mrs. Ida Steffey Landes, widow of Charles Newton Landes of 701 Park View Ave. died Tuesday evening (April 13, 1965) at 9:20 at Oak Hill Nursing Home. Mrs. Landes had been in declining health for several years and seriously ill for several days.
She was born Aug. 1, 1877, in Fluvanna County, a daughter of the late John M. and Esther (Slocum) Steffey. Mrs. Landes was a member of Marquis Memorial Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the V. F. W.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Leigh Riley and Mrs. Hallie Marie Swortzel both of Staunton and Mrs. Ruth Esther Bell of Jetersville; two brothers, Carl F. Steffey of Staunton and Ray Steffey of Covington. Also surviving are five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her husband, Charles Newton Landes died Feb. 7, 1958.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at three o’clock in the East Chapel of the Hamrick Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Paul R. Best, pastor of Marquis Memorial Methodist Church. Burial will be in Thornrose Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Ted Riddle, Richard Firebaugh, John Stoutamyer, Louis Garber, Morris Steffey, and Elwood Steffey.
Honorary: Fred Reid, Jefferson Lawson, Dr. Charles F. Gaylord, R. S. Woodall, Marion Wine, Melvin Steffey, C. O. Leigh, and Frank Dull.
The family will receive friends at the Hamrick Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 7-9 o’clock.
