George Mahle, an old and well known citizen, was born December 7, 1827, near Shippenville , Pa. , of which community he was a resident during the whole of his life. He was twice married; the first time to Catherine Updegroff, by whom he had one son and five daughters; and the second time to Susan Moore (widow of Thomas Moore) by whom he had three daughters. After suffering severe illness for many months he peacefully passed from this life September 13, 1904, aged 76 years, 9 months, and 6 days. Besides one brother, one sister, and four step-children, he leaves a wife, one son, seven daughters, and eight grandchildren. Funeral services, Rev. A.F. Rohr officiating, were held at the home on Thursday, September 15, at 3 o'clock p.m. Funeral discourse was based on Eccl 12: 13-14 and Acts 17: 30¬31, which texts the deceased himself had selected about eight years prior to his decease. Interment in Lutheran cemetery.
