Elaine was the eldest daughter of the late Reinhold and Ida (Voss) Roethel. She inherited her caring, gentle nature and her unique sense of humor from her father. Just like her mother, Elaine was an exceptional cook and gracious hostess.
She married Erwin (Erv) Hemb on April 30, 1949 at the Bethel Church near Ada, WI. Soon thereafter, they embarked on their greatest achievement—their family. Bonnie was born in 1950.
They moved to Menasha in 1952 and quickly expanded their family by welcoming son Richard. Elaine's family was her pride and joy and she always gave unconditional love to all.
After her children were older, she worked at Rosenow Paper Company and Germania Hall.
She had a wide circle of friends and thought of her friends as "gifts from God." She cherished the moments where she could entertain family and friends during road trips in the camper and at the cabin near Minocqua. She was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Neenah. She taught Sunday School, served on many boards, visited shut-ins and worked at Martha's Market for many years.
Elaine will be sadly missed by her husband of 61 years, Erv; her children, Bonnie (Jerry) Pozolinski of Menasha and Rick (Susan) Hemb of Sanger, CA; her grandchildren, Nick, Sarrie (Mike) and Chelsea Pozolinski all of Milwaukee, WI and Crystal Hemb of Sanger, CA; her sister, Carol (Carl) Kolb of Cleveland, WI; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Brunner of Milwaukee, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, Rudy and Alice Weinhold, and brother in-law Jim Brunner.
A celebration of life will be held on January 22, 2011 at the Congregational UCC ,1511 Nicolet Blvd Neenah, with Pastor Lynne Spencer Smith officiating.
A private burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Neenah.
Mom, we will miss the twinkle in your eyes, your sweet smile and your gentle touch. The world is a better place because you were here.
