Ruby Blanche Finn Pointer, of Jefferson City, formerly of Vienna, was born on January 24, 1909, at Vienna in Maries County, a daughter of Ellis and Hattie Serilda Elrod Bray and departed this life at 11:30 a.m., Friday morning, May 10, 1996, at Villa Marie Nursing Facility, Jefferson City, where she had been a resident for the past two years. Mrs. Finn Pointer had attained the age of 87 years.
Mrs. Finn Pointer was first united in marriage on July 5, 1930, at Vienna, to Noah Charles Finn, and to this union six children were born. Mr. Finn preceded his wife in death on February 20, 1960. She was later united in marriage on September 26, 1972, at Vienna, to Frank Pointer who also preceded his wife in death on September 13, 1984. Mrs. Pointer was also preceded in death by one son, Charles Ellis Finn on January 10, 1991; her father on May 2, 1961; her mother on February 27 1923; three brothers, Thomas A. Bray on December 31, 1915, Millard A. Bray on September 12, 1968; two sisters, Olive Jewel Bray on May 23, 1988 and Lillian A. Doyle on February 10, 1994; one granddaughter, Pamela A. Finn on January 14, 1988 and one great-granddaughter, Rachel Finn on January 14, 1988.
Mrs. Finn Pointer was a member of the Union Hill Baptist Church, near Vienna, being baptized at an early age. In later years she attended First Baptist Church in Vienna, before moving to the Heisinger Retirement Home, Jefferson City, in 1989. She was a loving and devoted mother and housewife. After her children were raised, she was supervisor of the school lunch program at the Maries R-I Schools, Vienna.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Finn Pointer include: four sons, Richard Finn of St. Louis, Leonard Finn of Belle, Allen Finn of Vienna and Michael Finn of Kalamazoo, MI; one daughter, Audrey James of Sullivan; one daughter-in-law, Helen Finn of St. Peters; one step-son, Frank Pointer, Jr. of Arnold; one step-daughter, Virginia Griffith of Sullivan; one brother, Allen Bray of Rolla; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Finn Pointer at 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning, May 13, 1996, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with the Rev. Robert D. Hodson, pastor of First Baptist Church, Vienna, officiating. "The Lord's Prayer" was played for the funeral service.
Mrs. Finn Pointer was laid to rest in the Vienna Cemetery beside her children's father the 13th day of May, 1996. Pallbearers who served were Todd Finn, Greg Finn, Larry Finn, Steve Finn, Mark James and Russell Gronek. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Vienna Public Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the Vienna office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. (From contributor, Ellen)
