CLARION – A 20-year-old Clarion youth was accidentally killed early Monday while he was attempting to remove the muffler from a wrecked car in Elk Township. State police that the victim, Perry Ray Merryman of 130 S. Jefferson Place, was pinned under the axle of the car after a bumper Jack supporting the cars weight gave way and the car dropped on him. Robert V. Burns, Clarion County coroner, pronounced him dead at the scene. He ruled accidental death due to suffocation.

Police said the accident happened sometime between 7:20 and 7:30 am but the victim was not found until 10 am. The accident happened at his grandfather’s home at Shippenville RD 2, just off Route 322. Young Merryman was employed at the Exit 8 Exxon Station at Shippenville.

Perry Ray Merryman was born January 24, 1955, in Clarion, a son of James Edward and Sue Cyphert Merryman. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clarion.

He is survived by his father, James E. Merryman of Shippenville and his mother, at home; two sisters, Kelly Sue and Dixie Merryman and a brother, James Guy Merryman, all at home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Cyphert of Clarion and Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Merryman of Shippenville RD 2.

Friends may call at the Gerald L. Goble Funeral Home in Clarion from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm today and attend funeral services there at 2 pm Wednesday. Rev. Howard C. Blanchard, pastor of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Clarion Cemetery.
