Cora was the youngest of 5 children born to:
John Dunton, b. Jun. 29, 1814 in Pownal, Bennington County, VT. and d. Jun. 9, 1894 in Lincoln County, KS. &
Filura M. Thurber, b. Jan. 6, 1830/31 in VT. and d. Nov. 25, 1890 in Los Angeles, L. A. County, CA.

On June 18, 1846, 31 yr. old John Dunton and 15 yr. old Filura M. Thurber were married in Ashtabula Co., OH.

John and Filura Dunton had five children:
1. Lyman Jesse Dunton, b. Feb. 3, 1848 in Orwell, Ashtabula, OH. and d. Nov. 25, 1927 in Lincoln, Lincoln, KS. Lyman and Annice May Larrabee were married on Jul. 1, 1869 in Coffin's Grove twp. - (or Mt. Hope), Delaware Co., IA.
2. Mary E. Dunton, b. approx. 1851 in Orwell, Ashtabula Co., OH. and d. Dec. 11, 1892 in Santa Monica, L.A., CA., probably from consumption. Mary Dunton married Lewis K. Marshall. She is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Los Angeles with her mother.
3. William Dunton Jr., b. Aug. 1856 in Clayton (or Wright Co.), IA. and d. 1921 in CA.
(*Note; 14 yr. old William was living with 22 yr. old brother, Lyman Jesse Dunton and his 18 yr. old wife, Annice in Honey Creek, Delaware Co., IA. in the June 30, 1870 U.S. census.) Lyman & Annice had been married almost a year to the day.
4. John Walter Dunton, b. Feb. 2, 1860 in Lodomillo, Clayton Co., IA. and d. Sept. 7, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA. John married Mary Ellen Askey in about 1881 in Lincoln, KS.
5. Cora M. Dunton, b. June 22, 1862 in IA. and d. May 31, 1926. She marr. first, on Aug. 5, 1883, Arthur G. Godfrey. They divorced and she marr. 2nd, James Edwin Tetlow. Cora and James Tetlow are buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Los Angeles, CA.

By the 1870 U.S. census, John and Filura were divorced and 6 yr. old Cora Dunton, b. abt. 1864 in IA., was living in Manchester, Delaware, IA. with
her 26 yr. old stepfather, John Collister, working on the railroad track, b. in Ireland, Gr. Britain
35 yr. old mother, 'Flora' Collister, b. in VT.
and 10 yr. old brother, John Dunton, b. in IA.

In 1882, John and Filura's daughter, Mary, was married to Lewis K. Marshall and living in Los Angeles, Ca. It was reported that she was seriously ill with tuberculosis and it was feared that she would not live. This was, undoubtedly, what prompted her mother, Filura and sister, Cora to move to California, arriving on Sept. 26, 1882 to remain there permanently. According to the Los Angeles Times, two of her brothers (Lyman and John) were to arrive during the coming winter to locate also. On October 19, 1882, it was feared that Mary would not survive until morning, but rallied a week later and lived another ten years.

Cora was married first to Arthur Gardner Godfrey, b. Dec. 20, 1857 in Green Co., WI. and d. Feb. 22, 1944.

Their marriage license was issued Aug. 5, 1883 and recorded on p. 419 of Book No. 8 of Marriage Certificates in Los Angeles County: 19 yr. old Cora Dunton, a resident of Los Angeles and 26 yr. old A. G. Godfrey, a native of Wisconsin and resident of Los Angeles.
According to the L.A. Times, they were married on August 6, 1883 in Los Angeles, Ca. Mr. & Mrs. L. K. Marshall (Cora's sister Mary & her husband) were witnesses.

Wedding
Last evening, at the residence of Mr. L. (Lewis) K. Marshall, No. 20 Pine street, in this city, Rev. F.D. Bovard united in the bonds of matrimony Mr. A. G. (Arthur Gardner) Godfrey, of the drug firm of Godfrey Brothers, and Miss Cora Dunton. Mr. H. Christie acted as groomsman, and Miss Minnie Marshall (probably Lewis K. Marshall's sister) as bridesmaid. About fifty invited guests were present, and the wedding was voted a happy affair. The table was an aesthetic display. In the center was a very fine wedding cake. The guests enjoyed themselves with music, song and toasts, till a late hour, when all took their departure, declaring it a very enjoyable affair. The presents were numerous and some of them very costly. The following is a list of presents and the names of the donors;

Hunter; beautiful Tidy, Miss Laura Shafer; silver sugar spoon, Mrs. Forest; basket of flowers, Mr. and Mrs. Fredley; majolica tea pot and cake plate, unknown; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Willee and Mr. John Lister, glass set of seven pieces, very beautiful; one broom, entwined with the ivy and olive branch, M.A. Marshall.

A very pleasant fair took place at the residence of Mr. L. K. Marshall on Sunday evening, where some friends had been invited to witness the nuptials of Mr. A. G. Godfrey and Miss Cora Dunton, of Lincoln Center, Kansas, a sister of Mrs. L. K. Marshall, Rev. F. D. Bovard officiating. Mr. H. Christie acted as groomsman, and Miss Minnie Marshall, bridesmaid. About 40 guests were present, and the affair was voted a happy one. An excellent supper was then spread, of which all partook with pleasure. Music and toasts followed to a late hour, when the guests took their departure.

This was a first marriage for James and a second for Cora. They had been married for 12 years. Cora was the mother of two children, both still alive by the time of this census.

In the 1916 California Voter Register, Cora Tetlow, a housewife, and James E. Tetlow, retired, were living at 109 Club House Av. in Venice, L.S., CA.
