Civil engineer from Babylon, NY. Son of William Henry Darling and Mary A. Wheeler. In 1864 he married Hannah A. Smith. They had 15 children. Hannah died in 1885. In 1887 he married Katharine Pittman Hamilton. Together they had 13 children.
A New York Times article published March 14, 1896 announced the arrival of his twenty-first child, a son. In the article, Mr. Darling boasts of being the father of more children than any other man in New York State.
