Esther M. Diefenbach, 81, Sturgeon Bay, went to her eternal home on Jan. 13, 2011, at Whispering Winds Assisted Living Center under the care of Unity Hospice. She was born in the Town of Gardner on Feb. 12, 1929, to Emil and Elsie (Hafeman) Wiese. She graduated from Brussels High School and was employed as a nurse's aide at Door County Memorial Hospital. On May 31, 1952, Esther married Donald H. Diefenbach at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Kolberg. They were married for 58 years.
Esther is survived by her husband, Don; her children, Debbie and Jim Stocco, Mosinee; Allen and Cindy Diefenbach, Sturtevant; four grandchildren, Arnie and Karl Ness, Rochester, Minn.; Eric Stocco, Plover; Josh Diefenbach and his fiancee, Lisa Jenista, Racine; and Joe Diefenbach, Sturtevant; and her great-granddaughter, Kenley Ness, Rochester, Minn. She is further survived by three sisters-in-law, Vera Shew, Pekin, Ill.; Leona Wiese, Brussels; Beverly Diefenbach, Algoma; and three brothers-in-law, Elroy Nell, Green Bay; and Orland and Ken Diefenbach, Algoma; many cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Clarence Wiese; four sisters, Gertrude Scherer, Alice Wiese, Delores Nell and Marion Haegele; and many brothers and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sturgeon Bay, with Rev. Larry Zessin officiating. Burial will be at Bayside Cemetery.
