In November 1869 August Adam (as "Adams") appears on a list of "Returns from Military Posts" for Camp Winfield Scott in Humboldt county, Nevada, as part of the 1st Cavalry commanded by Captain C. C. C. Carr. He was one of six soldiers (a private) who left for Camp McDaniel to act as witnesses at a General Court Martial.

In April of 1879 he was delinquent in an assessment for the Highland Ditch company, 50 shares, for $15. In May notice was published that his shares would be sold, and in June that they had been sold.

August Adam appears in the 1880 census in Washoe county as "A. Adams." He is 59 years old, born in Germany, with his occupation "House-Renter."

In February and March 1881 there was a small local blurb as well as a number of ads for a house he was offering: "For Rent. A two storey dwelling house hard furnished throughout, containing 10 rooms, on west Fourth street. Enquire of August Adam."

In December of 1883 a small local interest item was published: "August Adam, of Reno, has been granted a patent for a potato digger."
