Civil War - Enlisted on 11 August 1862 at Charlotte, Eaton County, Michigan as a Private; mustered in on 10 September 1862, Company U (unassigned), Michigan 6th Volunteer Infantry Regiment as a 2nd Lieutenant; captured and imprisoned 12 April 1863 at Manchac Pass, Louisiana; mustered out 8 July 1864 with a disability. His wife's pension card records he was also a 2nd Lieutenant with Company G, 1st Michigan Heavy Artillery Regiment.
