When he was one year old, the family moved to Beaufort, Mo., where he lived until after his marriage. On February 23, 1873, he married Louise Wilhelmina Fechtler. To this union nine children were born. In 1875, they moved to the farm near Gerald, which has been their home ever since.
The nine children born were Mrs. Elizabeth Roehrs, Washington, Mo.; William Duerr, Mrs. Ida Hollman, Mrs. Anna Bauche and George Duerr of Gerald; Ed Duerr of Leslie, Mrs. Clara Blaue of Sedalia, Mo., and Mrs. Amelia Froelker of Gerald.
One son, August, died when he was three years old.
When their children were grown, they raised a motherless child, now Mrs. Nora Wehmueller of Gerald.
Besides his widow and children, he leaves two sisters, Wilhelmina Franz and Margaret Butler of St. Louis, and one brother-in-law, Fritz Fechtler (92) of Beaufort; 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
