She was born to Hector Cisneros and Samantha Winkler.

On July 17, 2005, her mother's boyfriend took Aiyana into an upstairs bedroom, then her mother heard her child screaming and instead of checking on the toddler, she listened to her boyfriend, who told her to stay away. Hours later, Aiyana was lethargic, the mother said, she found when she finally went to check on Aiyana. Over the next couple days, Aiyana vomited, could not keep food down and was checked on again by her mother.
She did not seek medical help regardless of her daughter's screaming, the lethargy and the bruising on her body. Two days after the brutal beating, Aiyana died of blunt force injuries to her chest and abdomen. She also suffered serious internal bleeding.

The boyfriend, Pedro Nevarro, was sentenced to life in prison, while the mother, Samantha Winkler, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for failing to protect her child.
