James Newton Fiero was a lawyer in New York State, who became a member of the NY State Assembly Albany County, 1st District, 1909, and was then Reporter of the NY Supreme Court & Court of Errors from 1909 to 1931, and President of the New York State Bar Association. He was also an author on NY Law. He's found in records as J. Newton Fiero, and family referred to him simply as Newton Fiero.

He married at Delhi, NY on Apr 27, 1870 Janet (Jennie) Sands McCall of Delhi. His will was proved Apr 21, 1931 and is recorded in Albany book 77 page 336. It indicates he was residing in Albany and mentions the following:

His daughter Harriette F. (Fiero) McCloskey living in Upland, California, son Clifford Bernard Fiero--formerly of NYC now living abroad, grandson Emerson McCloskey, two other grandchildren (probably by Clifford) Erwin Agnew Fiero and Mary C. Sands, a sister-in-law Antoinette DeWitt of Saugerties, and finally instructions that he be cremated and buried in Saugerties.
