This family came to Lancaster from Parkesburg in 1909, where they lived on Mullbery St. Charles worked for the PRR as a watchman and brakeman. He had a wooden leg as a result of an accident when his leg got caught between two train cars in 1913-14. He later worked for the Bearings Co. of America in Lancaster. Thirteen children all born at Parkesburg.
