Son of Dr. John M. and Eliza M. Daniel of Stafford Co. Va. U.S. Minister to Sardinia 1853 -1860. Ast. Adj. to General Floyd in 1861. Volunteer Aide to A.P. Hill. Wounded in right arm at the Battle of Gaines' Mill. Editor of the Richmond Examiner. He predicted the collapse of the Confederacy and died three days before it occured.The Examiner suffered the same fate as the Confederacy, it was destroyed in the great conflagration of Richmond. The last edition contained the announcement of editor Daniel's death.
