She was born at her grandfather, Fred Randall's home, the daughter of Roy and Ica (Welch) Randall. At the age of five Verneda went to live with her grandfather, Fred. Verneda graduated from the eighth grade while attending a one room country school.
In 1943 she married James Russell Walker and they had six children, whom she raised on her own. She worked as a house keeper at Masonic Pathways and the Alma Motel and also worked for Skogmos in Breckenridge and JC Penney's in Alma and Mt. Pleasant.
Verneda enjoyed being a homemaker, crocheting, embroidering, gardening, riding horse and spending time and sharing laughter with her family. She also enjoyed snowmobiling and riding her little Honda Express.
Verneda was very loved by her children who will miss her greatly. Surviving are her six children, James and Randall Walker both of Midland, Wayne Walker of Merrill, Richard Walker of Chippewa Falls, Ilene (Tim) Bosscher of Midland and Karen (Don) Marlatt of Perrinton, two grandchildren, Brian Bosscher of Toronto, Canada and Jamie Boscher of Midland. Also two sisters, Mary Render of Coleman and Arlene Robinson of Shepherd.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandfather, Fred Randall, husband, Russell Walker, sisters, Doris Merritt, Alberta Dashner and a brother, Leon Merritt.
Cremation has taken place and a grave side service was held Saturday, February 5, 2011. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel Breckenridge.
